Deactivating Password Request For Mounting Windows Partitions In Ubuntu 9.10

Mounting Windows partitions in Ubuntu 9.10 prompts for the administrator password by default, which can be deactivated by following the steps given below:

1. Open the concerned file by typing in the terminal the following command.

varsha@varsha-laptop:~$ sudo gedit /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.devicekit.disks.policy

2. In the file, search for the line (most probably 34th):

<allow_active>auth_admin_keep</allow_active>

3. Replace the above line with the following line:

<allow_active>yes</allow_active>

4. Save and close the file.

Next time you mount the partitions, they would mount automatically without prompting for the password.
